10 Quick Ways To Ensure Consistent Website Management for Success

Here’s a quick checklist that will help you manage your website successfully:

1.    Assign one of your staff to be in charge of the website content management;
2.    Devote a few minutes of each staff meeting to the website. Don’t hesitate to ask for feedback and suggestions.
3.    Review and implement at least bi-weekly website revisions + content updates.
a.    Don’t leave the “under construction” and “content coming soon” portions on for too long not to discourage your web visitors from coming back.
b.    Delete old pages and directories; keep your contact info updated.
c.    Check for broken links or missing content - use this free tool to identify dead links: http://www.dead-links.com.
d.    If you use You Tube or other third-party movies/videos on your site, check to make sure they are still available.
e.    Check often to make sure that your online contact forms are functioning well.

f.    Spell-check, spell-check, spell-check!
4.    Monitor your traffic via the tools your hosts are providing for you. Sign up with Google, Yahoo and Bing web master tools to receive additional website intelligence.
5.    Check regularly which were the most visited and least visited pages, along with other key metrics that Google Analytics lets you set up and keep track of, and take relevant action. 6.    Don’t forget to promote your website for free, in addition to developing effective link, social media and advertising strategies – include it in your letterheads, envelopes, business cards, newsletters, emails, news releases, quotes, orders, invoices, advertisements, promotional materials, submit it for contests, link it to professional directories, etc.
7.    Always compare your website with those of your competitors, as well as with the websites you visited and liked. Research regularly how you can implement the features that you liked the most and if those features can help you get more traffic or more conversions.
8.    Always be on the lookout for new interesting online sales tools and website features and ask if your content updates team/contractor can help you implement them.
9.    Schedule quarterly and annual website reviews to access how well the website meets your goals and how to improve the results during the next 3-6 months.
10.  Redesign your website at least once every 2 years to reflect the changes in your organization. Most importantly, work constantly to optimize your website design, architecture and content for Google, Yahoo, Bing and Ask's search engines.
